These activities are designed to help students recognise their skills, personality traits and interests and understand why these are important when thinking about rewarding job roles.  You can also use this lesson as a prompt for students to start considering next steps and to inspire research into qualifications needed for jobs they have not previously considered, as well or routes to employment such as supported apprenticeships.

Key learning outcomes for this lesson include:

  • Demonstrating an understanding of the terms: skills, interests and personalities
  • Identifying their own skills, interests and personalities
  • Demonstrating an understanding of how skills, interests and personalities can help them find a career

How can my students get the most out of this lesson?

Where possible enable students to try the Wheel of Strengths interactive tool in the lesson, when they are identifying their skills, interests and personality traits. Alternatively, students could do this after the lesson to discover how their personal strengths and attributes can be used to match them with jobs.
