So, you’re about to start living independently. Perhaps you’re moving into a shared flat with friends, or staying at home but earning - and so managing your own money - for the first time. This is exciting, but if you’re anything like the rest of us, it’ll also be a little bit daunting. How will you budget for bills? In fact, what bills should you budget for? Will you be able to prioritise rent each month? Never fear. Our Reality of Independence film gives you the inspiration and information you need.

The most important thing when budgeting is to research, then plan, then write it down. Remember that you are not the first person to make this move. Friends, family, older siblings - they’ve all been there and done it. So, like Dom does with Henry in the video, talk to them. Ask them about potential pitfalls and top tips. Who knows, once you’re an independence guru, you might even be able to teach them a thing or two...
