Simon is currently assistant headteacher at Lister Community School in Plaistow, East London, with responsibility for upper school, intervention, careers education, educational visits, extracurricular activities, and marketing. He has taught in secondary schools in challenging circumstances for over ten years and, previously, was both curriculum leader for history and enrichment programme co-ordinator at Sidney Stringer Academy, Coventry. He believes passionately that socio-economic background should not determine a young person's life chances, and is a strong advocate of the importance of social mobility and in ensuring equality of access to the best educational opportunities for all young people.
