So, what is success? The meaning of success has evolved so much even in the past decade and honestly, that’s probably just how it’s going to be from now on: ever-changing. Exciting, right? If you’re not sure what success might look like to you, you’re not alone. Pretty much everyone is trying to identify what it is, and that’s OK, but the question is: how? Here are five ways to try and figure it out and be successful in your own right:
Maybe it always has been, but success nowadays is all relative and subjective, so being able to achieve it also means understanding it. Your definition could easily be different to that of someone else. Is it a 9-5 job, pursuing your passion, starting your own business, or something else entirely? Defining what it means to you means you can make a plan and figure out how you’re going to get there.
When it comes down to it, the only person that matters is you. Your life; your opinion. If you focus on comparing yourself to everything and everyone else, not only does it result in added pressure but also sucks the fun out of the journey! Get personal and figure out what it is you are good at with these 5 tips. Reflecting on what your strengths and weaknesses are will help you identify what you need to work on to get to where you want to be. LifeSkills is here to help with boosting your skills in those less strong areas.
Failure can happen. There is no defined right or wrong way in the path of success, so be open to opportunities that may lead you to your destination even if it wasn’t part of the initial plan. When something doesn’t quite go to plan, be flexible and prepared to work out how you can get over that hurdle and move onwards and upwards. Check out our problem solving guide for help with this.
Sometimes, as humans, we rush. It’s in our nature. If we stopped applying this rationale to achieving success we could all focus our energy on the things that actually matter to us. It may be slow at times but remember any progress is better than no progress at all.
Being brave doesn’t mean you need to become a superhero. It means sometimes, in order to achieve whatever success is to you, you’ll have to get a little uncomfortable. Be brave, that’s where the magic happens! Check out How to successfully face your fears for some top tips.
Just remember; success is what you make it, and can take many different shapes, so figure out what it means to you and then go from there. For more on figuring out your future, log in or sign up.
