Embedding skills podcast: how to use schemes of learning to support your curriculum and show progression for learners
LifeSkills schemes of learning are the latest support for schools and colleges, responding to feedback from educators about the importance of showing progression for learners.
In this podcast episode Kate McGoey, Head of LifeSkills, is joined by Jyoti Pettit, an experienced Head of PSHE, to reflect on the LifeSkills’ new schemes of learning.
There are ready-made schemes of learning (covering themes of employability skills and financial education) that you can use with different age groups, starting at 7 and going up to 19. There are also two progression maps, covering the same themes, showing how topics and learning build on each other across your learners’ entire time in school.
In conversation with Kate, Jyoti shares ideas for how to build employability skills across a learner’s time in school and college – and how the schemes can give busy educators an off-the-shelf starting point to do so.
Kate and Jyoti’s discussion also looks at the benefits of linking learning to real-world contexts, ideas for how to make learning more relevant, and why personal development is more important than ever in today’s world.
Listen to the podcast to discover Jyoti’s top tips – including how you can use the progession map to get buy in from colleagues in school.
